About us

The Microbial Metabolism Laboratory (LMM), installed at the Institute of Biological Sciences of the University of Pernambuco (UPE), operates in the development of new research and technological innovation in the area of Applied Biotechnology.

Rafael Barros de Souza

Graduated in full degree in biological sciences from the Catholic University of Pernambuco (2008), master's degree in Biological Sciences from the Federal University of Pernambuco (2012) and doctorate in Biological Sciences from the Federal University of Pernambuco, with sandwich doctorate at the Instituto de Tecnologia Química, scholarship CAPES (2016). He is currently an adjunct professor at the University of Pernambuco. Member of the technical-scientific Council of the Institute of Technological Innovation at UPE. Member of the Research Ethics Committee at the University of Pernambuco. Has experience in Genetics, focusing on Molecular and Microorganism Genetics, acting on the following subjects: lactic acid bacteria, cell wall integrity, ethanol fermentation, metabolic signalling and microbial interaction.
